Two people were arrested early Sunday morning after they evaded officers near Pine and Main streets, according to Lodi police.

Officers attempted to pull over a purple Camaro after it ran a stop sign at Pine and Stockton streets, Lt. Chris Jacobson said.

The car accelerated away, and went south on Stockton Street and then east on Oak Street. Officers said the car was going more than 50 miles per hour; when it turned south on Washington Street, it began to slide sideways, Jacobson said.

As the car was still in motion, likely going 25 miles per hour, passenger Martin Natasia attempted to jump from the moving vehicle, got caught in the seat belt and was hanging for several feet, police said. He then untangled himself and immediately ran to the sidewalk with his hands in the air, they said.

The driver, Leslie Gonzalez, 29, continued driving for a short distance before she surrendered, police said.

"It was a short pursuit, but it got pretty hairy when the passenger jumped out of the vehicle," Jacobson said.

Gonzalez said she drove away from police because Natasia threatened her if she did not try to escape, Jacobson said.

Natasia, of Lodi, was arrested on an outstanding warrant for a parole violation, Jacobson said. Gonzalez, of Lodi, was arrested for evading arrest and a domestic violence warrant.
