While hanging out at Littleton Community Center to write a story and shoot photos of a special turkey dinner for senior citizens and the homeless, I saw a rather odd creature with a green face and wearing a red Santa jacket waving to passersby on Civic Drive on Sunday afternoon.

It was the Grinch.

However, it seemed there was something a little different from the Grinch that Dr. Suess made famous. This one had a distinctively female voice.

“I am a nice Grinch,” she explained to me.

As it turned out, the Grinch was Desiree Fassler.

“The Grinch loves Galt because the Grinch is from Galt,” she said. “But he does like to travel to Lodi and Elk Grove.”

That includes an appearance in last week’s Lodi Parade of Lights.

I was rather befuddled when I didn’t see the Grinch with a sleigh, so I asked if she uses one to get around town.

“No, I have my Chevrolet,” she replied.

Gloria Guthmiller, a 41-year Galt resident, asked Fassler, “Does the Grinch need a hug?”

She replied, “The Grinch loves hugs.”

Pastor Jon Kibler-McCabe of Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, who volunteered serving turkey on Sunday, may have put the Grinch sighting in its proper perspective.

“How many people actually interviewed the Grinch?”

True, indeed.
