Fifteen years ago, tragedy struck the nation on September 11. Four large U.S. passenger airplanes were hijacked by members of the terrorist group al-Qaeda. Two were flown into the World Trade Center Twin Towers, one hit the Pentagon and a fourth crashed in a Pennsylvania field after passengers fought with the hijackers.

Almost 3,000 people died that day, and thousands more were injured.
