Middle school parents in Galt who want their students to ride the bus to school in the mornings have until Aug. 7 to enter a lottery conducted by the Galt Joint Union Elementary School District.
Due to budget cuts, there are 60 spaces available for the service. It will be available only to west-side riders who live within the city limits.
Applications sent to student households are due to the district office by Aug. 7.
Bus passes will be mailed home for the morning transportation spaces selected through the lottery process. Additional students will be placed on a waiting list.
Parents are encouraged to arrange for car pools, consider registering for the after-school services at McCaffrey Middle School, and contact South County Transit services for possible paid transportation services to and from school.
Superintendent Karen Schauer’s letter sent home Monday is the third communication she’s prepared since May to keep parents updated on the status of transportation.
“We regret that school bus transportation services cannot be provided at the same level we have provided in the past,” she said.
Last month, the school board voted to eliminate most bus routes except those in the rural area.
