The San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors appointed Woodbridge activist Mary Avanti on Tuesday as the District 4 representative to the county Parks and Recreation Commission.
She replaces Gersh Rosen, of Victor, who resigned recently for health reasons. Rosen will continue on the county museum board of directors.
The Lodi area has another Parks and Recreation commissioner, Mary Fuhs, of Acampo.
Born in Chicago, Avanti grew up in a small Wisconsin town. She lived in San Jose from 1960 until moving to Woodbridge in 2003. Avanti received a bachelor's degree in behavioral science at San Jose State University and worked for Santa Clara County for 30 years before retiring. She worked in social services, at the public defender's office and with heroin addicts for Santa Clara County's Drug and Alcohol Services Department.
