One lane on Highway 12 in the Delta will continue to be closed until about 6 p.m. today in the aftermath of a multi-vehicle accident a mile west of Tower Park Marina, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision took place at about 11 a.m. Monday, when Joseph Teves, 26, of Rio Vista, the driver of a Ford Ranger, headed east on Highway 12. Taves was distracted while talking to a passenger, Ryan Smith, 26, also from Rio Vista, and crashed head-on with a big rig headed west, according to CHP Officer James Smith.

Both vehicles overturned, with the big rig going down a 15-foot embankment, Smith said. Teves was hospitalized for injuries that weren’t life-threatening, Smith said. The driver of the big rig, Daniel Stephenson, 53, of Sacramento, was not injured.

Several vehicles traveling east behind the Ford Ranger drove off the road embankment into an open field to avoid crashing into the big rig, Smith said. There was no damage or injuries to the people evading the truck.

CHP officers determined that alcohol was not a factor in the collision, Smith said.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
