An alleged Norteño gang member was arrested for attempted murder Friday evening in Lodi, police said.
Raymond Garcia, 45, is in custody of the Lodi Police Department for an assault authorities believe took place on Tuesday.
The incident took place at a motel on the 700 block of South Cherokee Lane, said Sgt. William Alexander of the Lodi Police Department.
"(The victim) woke up to some noise, and Raymond Garcia had a knife in his hand and started stabbing him," Alexander said.
The wounds were not life-threatening, police said. One was a defensive wound to the arm and the other laceration was on the victim's neck, Alexander said.
The victim is a 26-year-old dropout of the Norteño street gang, Alexander said. His name is being withheld by authorities at this time. Garcia is affiliated with the Norteños, Alexander said.
Garcia was arrested Friday evening on the 300 block of Flora Street after police obtained a search warrant. Officers believe they have recovered the weapon used in the assault, Alexander said. Garcia is currently being held in the Lodi jail, and no court date has yet been set.
