What: The Galt City Council chamber improvement project is nearing completion. A new laminated dais top and front as well as a new city emblem are being installed. New wall surfacing and paint will cover the old, outdated wall paneling.

With the replacement of the former dais Friday, Galt City Manager Jason Behrmann estimated the project is 95 percent complete and should wrap up just in time for Tuesday’s regular city council meeting.

Where: The chambers are located inside City Hall at 380 Civic Drive.

Who: The contract agreement for the work is with Douglas J. Faszer Construction, of Galt.

When: The work was started June 5 and performed in between regular city council meetings.committees, commissions and boards that use the chamber for their meetings had to find alternative locations over the last two weeks.

Why: The city is seeking to update the aesthetics of the room, as it is has not been updated in possibly decades. A separate contract to replace the sound system is in the works.

How: The modernization is being funded by $50,000 in Public, Educational and Government fees from the Metro Cable Commission.
