Motorists should be aware of nighttime construction work that has been scheduled for Interstate 5 from just south of Pocket Road in Sacramento to north of Laguna Boulevard near the city of Elk Grove on Saturday, according to the California Department of Transportation.
The California Highway Patrol will have units posted for enforcement and traffic control.
North and southbound lanes will be limited to one lane in both directions from 11 p.m. Saturday to 7 a.m. Sunday. Both Pocket Road onramps to southbound I-5 will be closed between these hours. Heavy construction equipment and machinery will be operating in and out of the work zone.
Caltrans warns motorists that traffic control may begin earlier Saturday evening with cones being placed on the freeway. Drivers should factor in additional travel time or use an alternate route until the work has been completed.
Unexpected weather or other events may prolong or cause the work to be rescheduled.
The work is part of an $82.5 million project by Caltrans and the City of Sacramento known as the Cosumnes River Boulevard Extension and Interstate 5 Interchange Project.
