A street in Woodbrige experienced brief flooding Thursday morning when a truck collided wih a fire hydrant, said Public Information Officer James Smith, of the California Highway Patrol.

Samuel Gaspar, 36, was driving west on Indiana Street at 7:40 a.m. pulling a trailer full of gardening tools behind his 2001 Chevy pickup. Due to an unknown cause, Gaspar’s vehicle veered across the road into the southern sidewalk, police said. The truck crashed into a fire hydrant, hit a mailbox, went through a fence and smashed into a 2003 Dodge Neon parked at 518 Indiana St.

The crash caused the hydrant to gush water for more than an hour, creating a small flood one foot deep in the street. Gaspar was not injured, and no one else was hit, according to police.

Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash, officers said.
