Lodi police have arrested a man they allege had a knife and may have intended to rob a business Tuesday morning.

David Michael Joachim, 29, could face a felony weapons possession charge and a misdemeanor charge of resisting arrest from his alleged actions on West Kettleman Lane shortly after 10:30 a.m.

Cpl. Roger Butterfield, who arrested Joachim, said he received a call about a man on a bicycle with a beanie and a knife on the 1000 block of West Kettleman Lane, and found Joachim in the area.

“I found Joachim, who matched the description, on the 600 block of Kettleman with two others on bikes,” he said. “I told him to put his hands up and he started riding off.”

During the brief pursuit, Joachim threw his beanie off and a knife with a 3-inch fixed blade fell out, Butterfield said.

The chase ended when Joachim threw his bike down and confronted Butterfield, he said.

“He threw his arms up like was going to fight,” he said.

Butterfield said he drew his service weapon and Joachim surrendered.

Although no theft took place, Butterfield said the caller who reported Joachim had indicated a robbery could be imminent.

“The caller said he heard Joachim being warned to wait a minute because cops were in the area,” he said.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
