Lodi wines made a good showing at this year's California State Fair. Nearly 3,000 wines were entered from 688 wineries across the state. Products of Lodi came out on top in nine categories, including Best of California. Lodi wines earned nearly 30 gold rankings, and seven double gold rankings.
Oak Ridge Winery, located on Highway 12, took the top spot with their 2009 Maggio Merlot. The wine earned a double gold ranking of 98 percent, and was named Best of California as well as best in its class.
They've won awards before but "nothing at this level," said Scott Parker, project manager for the winery.
"I think it reasserts the quality of wines that our winery puts out and the quality of wine coming out of Lodi," he said.
Local wine industry leaders are proud of the goals Lodi wines are accomplishing around the state.
"This speaks to the investment in quality, the hard work and dedication to putting out great grapes and wine in Lodi appellation," said Camron King, executive director of the Lodi Winegrape Commission. "A lot of hard work has gone on down here, and these awards are recognition of that."
