David Main, the former chief of the Lodi Police Department, will be the next director of public safety for San Joaquin Delta College. The college's board of trustees approved Main's appointment to the position at Tuesday's meeting. Main's hiring was a consent item, or procedural decision for the trustees, so there is no individual breakdown on how each member voted.

"He will start in June, after his vacation," said Vince Brown, vice president of human resources at San Joaquin Delta College.

As director of public safety, Main will be responsible for monitoring the campus' police force and educators who train them. Main is also no stranger to the campus or its programs. The 53-year-old began teaching the college's police academy on a part-time basis in 1991. Main was a member of the Lodi Police Department for 28 years and was police chief from 2008 to 2010.
