The public is invited to an upcoming school play at Oak View Elementary School in Acampo. The production of "The Wizard of Oz" will be held in the school's new gym, complete with a new stage.

The characters of the play have been changed to reflect staff at Oak View, according to Principal/Superintendent Beverly Boone.

In an attempt to bring visual and performing arts to upper-grade Oak View students, parent and teacher assistant Dannel Montesano started an after-school drama club. Students in sixth through eighth grades have been meeting at least twice a week since the beginning on the year focusing on performing skills such as speaking, singing and acting, Boone said.

Most recently they have been practicing for their end-of-the-year performance.

Performances will be held at 2 and 6 p.m. June 1. There is a $3 charge for the show, and there will be snacks, drinks and T-shirts for sale as well. All money will go toward production costs and funding future performances.

The school is located at 7474 E. Collier Road, Acampo.
