Frank Gayaldo with Embassy Wine Distributors and Borra Winery will be honored at the sixth annual Tourism Luncheon on May 1 at Wine & Roses.
The Visit Lodi! Conference & Visitors Bureau is hosting the luncheon and currently selling tickets.
"The purpose of the luncheon is to celebrate the efforts we have made in the tourism industry over the past year as well as to honor those individuals in the community who have made a significant contribution to the Lodi tourism efforts," wrote Nancy Beckman, Visit Lodi! president and CEO, in a news release.
The organization will give the Lodi Tourism Advocate of the Year award to Frank Gayaldo at the luncheon. Visit Lodi! selected him for the award because he has put Lodi on the map internationally, by establishing export opportunities and getting Lodi wines into numerous U.S. diplomatic posts.
Gayaldo has also brought numerous international leaders and trade delegations to Lodi, including officials from Russia, Costa Rica and seven different regions in China.
"Considering that international visitors are the largest growing tourism segment to California, Frank's international efforts in positioning Lodi as a premium wine destination will benefit our region for years to come," he said.
Borra Vineyards will also be recognized with the Winery of the Year award for their commitment to quality and promoting the Lodi region. The winery's 2008 Borra Fusion Red was named one of the Wall Street Journals' top 12 wines.
"Borra's commitment to producing excellent wines not only brings them well deserved recognition but elevates Lodi as a premium wine producing region," Beckman said.
Wine & Roses and Lodi Gas Storage are sponsoring the luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 1. It costs $30 for individuals or $240 for a table of eight. Reservations can be made at the Visit Lodi! office at 115 S. School St., Suite 9 or by calling the bureau at 209-365-1195.
