- Pawn basics
-
The term "pawn" refers to an item that is given as security for a financial loan. Lodi Pawn Jewelry & Loan offers sales and pawns to its customers.
The following is a step by step guide to pawning an item:
Appraisal
When you first bring an item into the pawn shop, the clerk will evaluate the value of the item. The shop does not require a receipt proving ownership before the item is pawned.
If an item being pawned is found to be stolen, the shop will work with the Lodi Police Department to return the stolen property to the proper owners.
Pawn ticket
Upon agreement on the appraisal, a pawn ticket is written up as a contract for services. A pawn ticket shows the item pawned and the appraisal value, how much the shop offered the customer, and any fees required by the state and the shop.
Loan period
The item may be on pawn from 30 days to four months.
Redeeming your item
The owner of the pawned item may retrieve it by paying off the loan at any time within four months. After four months, the shop can sell the item to redeem the amount of money loaned, plus any interest earned.

Pawn shops have not always been known as the nicest businesses to run or have around, but Rajbir "Ray" Ghaune is looking to change that.
Ghaune, a 20-year-old graduate of Tokay High School's Class of 2010, recently opened Lodi Pawn Jewelry & Loan.

Great! Now burglers without transportation have a place to sell their bounty and the victims have a local starting point in search of their stolen items without having to go to Stockton first.

It looks high-end with those classy banners. Like a piece of Stockton in the heart of Lodi.

It is nice to see a local business featured in the Sentinel that doesn't concern the overloaded wine industry enterprise zone businesses that have overtaken downtown Lodi and nearby areas. Lodi hasn't had a pawn shop for years and it is refreshing to see local residents open a business such as a pawn shop when the financial times are still difficult for most Lodians. Congratulations.
