Longtime Lodi Unified School District trustee and retired teacher Bonnie Cassel has been selected to serve as board president by her peers at Tuesday’s regular school board meeting.
The district’s annual changing of the guard comes the same week both school districts in Galt held their annual reorganization meetings.
On Monday, the Galt Joint Union Elementary School District board of trustees selected trustee Wes Cagle as its president, while trustee John Gordon will serve as vice president. In that role, Gordon will preside over board meetings if Cagle is absent.
Galt Joint Union High School District at its meeting Tuesday selected Mark Beck as president. There is no vice president; however, Art Oelsner as clerk will take over Beck’s duties when he is unavailable.
Both Galt trustees were approved with 5-0 votes.
Cassel, first elected to the Lodi Unified school board in 2006, was nominated as president by fellow trustee George Neely. The board also voted 6-1 in favor of Joe Nava continuing as vice president.
Trustee Ruth Davis was absent.
Cassel was reappointed to her seat last fall when a technicality regarding an extended absence forced the board to open her elected position to the public. Her term ends in December 2014.
Cassel is the trustee of Area 1, which includes Clements Elementary, Davis Elementary, Houston School, Lawrence Elementary, Live Oak Elementary, Lockeford Elementary, Tokay Colony Elementary, Victor Elementary and Morada Middle schools.
Cassel is a former Lodi Unified teacher and Clements businesswoman.
