One student or student group will win $1,000 tonight for work on an environmental video. The contest winner announcement will be made at a public awards ceremony.

Submissions were open for the first-ever stormwater video contest in which high school-age applicants submitted public service announcements, with the theme "only rain down the drain."

The contest was co-sponsored by the city of Lodi and open to students within the Lodi Unified School District boundaries.

Judges have ranked all of the videos in three categories: 30-second PSA, 60-second PSA and five to 10 minute documentary.

The best of show wins $1,000, while the top winner in each category will receive $100.

Additionally, Videomaker Magazine will be donating free subscriptions and a complete DVD instructional for Best of Show, while the San Antonio Independent Film Festival will be awarding an instructional CD set to the best of categories.

Residents are invited to the awards ceremony tonight at 7 p.m. in the Lodi Hotel Ballroom, 7 S. School St.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
