The first Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy Committee meeting was held last week, thus signaling a new push for Galt's economy.
The purpose of the committee is to update the city's first Economic Development Strategy, developed in 2008. The update will be prepared in accordance with guidelines approved by the Federal Economic Development Administration so that it can be designated as a certified Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy, according to City Manager Jason Behrmann.
This designation will make the city eligible for economic development grants through the EDA. The money could help fund roadways and other infrastructure.
This was the first of two workshops being facilitated by Chabin Concepts, the economic development consultant who prepared the 2008 strategy.
The first workshop reviewed the city's status, including progress made since 2008, and began the process of developing priority economic development goals and initiatives for the next three years, Behrmann said in a weekly report posted on the city's website.
