An 11-year-old Lodi boy walking on the shoulder of a Highway 99 off-ramp was struck by a car and hospitalized with moderate injuries Thursday morning, according to California Highway Patrol.
Around 6:55 a.m., Larry Lavery, 52, driving south on Highway 99, was exiting onto Turner Road. According to a police report, the boy, who was walking on the right shoulder of the Turner Road off-ramp, ran in front of Lavery’s Ford vehicle, which was traveling at roughly 45 mph.
Lavery swerved left to avoid the boy, but the right side of his car struck the boy, witnesses said.
The boy was transported to a Sacramento hospital. The collision is still under investigation.
