Peripheral canal, Delta will be discussed at sustainability forum

The pros and cons of a peripheral canal to transfer water to areas south of San Joaquin County and the transformation of the Delta will be discussed at a forum on Saturday morning.

"A Primer on Water and the Delta" will be the first of three forums hosted by a coalition of environmental advocates, private businesses and local government agencies.

Guest speakers will be Jerry Meral, deputy secretary of the California Natural Resources Agency; Jason Peltier, chief deputy general manager of the Westlands Water District; Jim Fiedler, chief operating officer of the Santa Clara Valley Water District; Stockton Mayor Ann Johnston; Delta water attorney John Herrick; Jeffrey Michael, director of the University of the Pacific's Business Forecasting Center; and Barbara Barrigan-Parilla, executive director of Restore the Delta.

The forum is sponsored by the Sierra Club, Campaign for common Ground, A.G. Spanos Cos., the Stockton City Council and the San Joaquin Council of Governments.

The forum, open to the public, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Stockton Civic Auditorium, 525 N. Center St., Stockton.
