The Galt Joint Union School District Board of Trustees last Thursday agreed to allow Liberty Ranch High School to switch graduation dates with Estrellita High School, thus clearing the way for Liberty Ranch to hold its ceremony on June 5 at Memorial Auditorium in Sacramento.

The 4-1 vote was taken at a special meeting. Trustee Kathleen Amos cast the dissenting vote.

Last week, Liberty Ranch Principal Brian Deis asked trustees for the date change after students last month voted to once again hold their graduation in Sacramento, but found there was a scheduling conflict for Memorial Auditorium. The inaugural Class of 2012 held its ceremony there last June.

Superintendent Matthew Roberts said the venue request and contract will be discussed at a future board meeting.

Meanwhile, Estrellita's graduation will be June 7. Trustees originally voted against allowing the two schools to switch dates.

"As superintendent, I am pleased that the board voted on behalf of the students," Roberts said Friday.
