A final decision is looming for the 13 projects vying for money from the city of Lodi.

The city has more than half a million dollars from the annual Community Development Block Grant to split among community-based projects and city programs that need a boost. A public hearing on Wednesday will give Lodi residents a chance to weigh in on which projects will get that money, and which groups will walk away empty-handed.

Mr. Bitz, that is a small chunk compared to the standard 25% administrative fees awarded to the grantee of these funds. I wonder if that 15% is even the right figure. All the grant funds that I have seen awarded in SJ county come with that 25% "add on" just for "handling" the transaction. I think LPD got close to $100K for administration of their gang intervention grant. Sounds pretty greedy to me.

From my seat in the bleachers it seems wrong for the city to take 15% of the block grant money for "administration fees"--some eighty thousand dollars in this case.
If the city has to pay overtime or hire additional staff to handle the money then yes that cost could and maybe should be recovered but no more.
