A Lodi man was arrested early Sunday morning, after the California Highway Patrol said he led officers on a high-speed chase from South Sacramento to Placer County.

David Muhammad Hunter, 52, driving a white Ford van, led CHP officers from Highway 99 near Florin Road to Indian Hill Road, located between Rocklin and Auburn, late Saturday night, according to CHP Officer David Martinez.

A sergeant from the Stockton CHP office tried to stop Hunter from weaving on Highway 99, Martinez said. Officers from the North Sacramento office attempted to stop Hunter by placing a spike strip on Interstate 80 near Douglas Road in Roseville, but Hunter swerved onto the right shoulder and got away, Martinez said.

Hunter was arrested after slowing down near Indian Hill Road in Newcastle because all four of his tires were flat, Martinez said.

Hunter was booked into Sacramento County Jail on suspicion of evading an officer and driving in a reckless manner, a felony; assault on a peace officer, also a felony; and misdemeanor resisting officers.

He was in custody Monday on $50,000 bail, according to jail records. He is scheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. today in Sacramento County Superior Court.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
