While guiding a broom around the tire of a parked car, Ginny Matthews wears a bright orange traffic vest and talks about her six-year-old dog Socks and her weekend plans to take her 17-year-old daughter to get her senior pictures taken.

It's 10 a.m. Friday, and Matthews is one of four workers sweeping and picking up trash on School Street after the Downtown Farmers Market.

Hi dogs4you: I am sure it is private property, next to the Imperial Hotel, but with 6 foot tall weeds, obviously the owner does not want to do any upkeep! Look at the "PIT" next to the old Minerva's, you know... where the accidental fire occurred years ago? The weeds in the pit are far taller then 6 feet! Do you think they care about "Filling in that HOLE, or cutting down the weeds? Heck no! The city could enforce some ordinance I am sure, but I was a speedier resolution at the time. It doesn't take but an hour here or there for me to finish a task, and I have the spare time and bottle of water so... why not help out if I can. Bottom line, I like the small town feel of Lodi and how well kept most of Lodi is.

A worth while endevor T&C, and your a good man for volunteering your time for a good cause. I only have one question that is not ment to take away from your pride in our town. Is this city property, if so should the city manage and maintain it? I know the city is scrapped for money, so they should be happy for people like you. Good work T&C and keep it up. God Bless.

I volunteered and "Cut Down" the 5 foot tall weeds growing in the empty Lot across from the Bus station this morning! Volunteerism can take the shape of many small acts that help Lodi to look as nice as it does. Please folks, take a moment in your own way to help someone, a neighbor, a business, a park, a church. Donate if you can your time or dollars to something that means something to the community.
