Four Lodi wines took home best of state and region awards this year at the California State Fair. Lodi’s Macchia Winery earned best Zinfandel in the state with a double gold 98 ranking on their 2011 Adventurous zin, made with grapes from Linsteadt Vineyard in Amador County.
“It’s all good. Lodi really shines with the grapes that we get here. At one tine, we were one of the first putting Lodi on the label. Now we are at a time when people are proud to put Lodi on the bottle,” said Lani Holdender, wife of Macchia Winery owner Tim Holdener.
Michael-David Inkblot won in the Best of California category as the Best Other Red Varietal with a 2010 Tannat that earned a gold 94.
Jeff Runquist Wines won Best of Lodi Red with his 2012 Grenache with fruit from Silvaspoons Vineyard. The entry earned a gold 94.
Cabana Wines won Best of Lodi White with a 2012 Sauvignon Blanc, earning a double gold 98.
So many wine entries were submitted that tasting and judging took place ahead of the fair. Visitors can try all the award winning wines at the Wine Garden during the fair from July 12 to July 28.
