One man was arrested early Friday morning after a high-speed car chase from Galt to Lodi.
Officers from the Galt Police Department were called to a Valero gas station to respond to a theft of cigarettes at 3 a.m., according to Lt. Jim Uptegrove.
One officer drove around the area looking for suspects and, on a hunch, decided to get on Highway 99 heading south, police said. He ended up behind the suspect's car, and the vehicle took off, reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour, Uptegrove said.
The car exited the freeway and drove to Cherokee Lane, where the four occupants got out of the car and fled on foot, police said.
One was apprehended at 3:15 a.m., but the other three got away, Uptegrove said. Police are no longer actively searching. The car was towed, and officers hope that information from processing the car will lead to more suspects.
Officers from the Lodi Police Department, the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Department and K-9 officers from the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department all responded to the call, Uptegrove said.
