What a loss for everyone. Having worked on Ski Patrol with Joe for many years, it has hit our group hard. Joe was a truly wonderful guy. I am proud to have known him and worked with him. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to his family, friends and co-workers.

A real tragedy. I've ridden my motorcycle through that area dozens of times. It is a beautiful ride.
Hope the truth comes out about the accident.

This is so, so sad. Capt. Hansen was a good guy. My condolences to his family and co-workers.
(From the Amador Ledger Dispatch: "Ledger Dispatch reporters working overnight confirmed the death of a male motorcycle rider in his late 40s, who had been traveling on Highway 88 sometime between 11 p.m. and 1 a.m. when he experienced a major collision. Discovery of the accident happened around 1 a.m., when 911 dispatchers were alerted by a passing motorist. The wrecked motorcycle was spotted on Highway 88, just east of Peddler’s Hill. The California Highway Patrol and the Amador County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, where CHP officers determined the man had suffered fatal injuries prior to their arrival. The CHP is still conducting an investigation into the details and nature of the crash.")
