The alleged killer of 18-year-old Angelica Osorio is being held without bail until further notice after he appeared for the first time in court in Stockton on Thursday.
Miguel Araiza Jr., 17, appeared only briefly in front of San Joaquin County Superior Court Judge Richard Guiliani before his arraignment was extended to Wednesday.
Araiza was appointed a public defender, but who will take on his case has yet to be determined.
Araiza is facing charges that include murder, with two special circumstance allegations of financial gain and gang-related murder, attempted murder, personal use of a firearm, possession of methamphetamine for sale and participation in a street gang.
On March 10, Araiza allegedly pulled up next to Osorio and her 17-year-old boyfriend on the 00 block of South Garfield Street in a 1990s brown sedan.
Police say Araiza then shot Osorio once, then shot her boyfriend multiple times before fleeing the scene.
When Lodi police arrived, Osorio was unresponsive. Though she was transported to a local hospital, she eventually succumbed to her wound and died.
Osorio's boyfriend was also transported to a local area hospital. He is expected to survive his injuries; however, police did not have an update on the boyfriend's condition as of press time.
On Monday evening, Lodi police arrested Araiza in an area he was known to frequent, though the location of where Araiza was arrested was not released by Lodi police.
Araiza is currently being held at the juvenile detention center in French Camp, and it has not yet been determined if he will be tried as an adult in court.
He is scheduled to next appear in court Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Department 36.
