The man who died in a one-car accident in Acampo on Thursday has been identified as 62-year-old Juan Rudy Flores of Acampo.
Flores was one of three people involved in the crash Thursday afternoon on East Jahant Road near North Lower Sacramento Road.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the driver of the vehicle, 47-year-old Wanda Nichols of Lodi, was traveling at an unsafe speed when the vehicle collided with a metal gate. The vehicle, a 1995 Dodge Caravan, went off the road and overturned when it struck a section of railroad tracks.
Flores and Nichols, who were not wearing seatbelts, were ejected from the vehicle in the crash. Flores died from his injuries, and Nichols was airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center with moderate injuries.
A third passenger, 57-year-old Ruth Palacios of Woodbridge, sustained only minor injuries. Palacios was wearing her seatbelt.
In a press release, the California Highway Patrol said alcohol was a contributing factor in the collision. Multiple beer bottles were also present near the crashed vehicle.
Nichols has been charged with vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence, both felonies, according to Officer Angel Arceo with CHP.
