Lodi firefighters train for rooftop rescues

Lodi firefighters braved any fear of heights Thursday as, one by one, they climbed up a ladder that can stretch up to 100 feet to the roof of a building to hone their skills with veritical ventilation.

Firefighters from each of the city's four stations accompanied Battalion Chiefs Ron Penix and Gene Stoddart to the top of 101 W. Locust St. with a chainsaw and an ax, learning where to cut holes and that would best ventilate a building that has caught on fire.
