A woman's car was damaged by some sort of explosive device Sunday afternoon, and now law enforcement is asking the public to help search for suspects.

At approximately 5:15 p.m., Galt police officers responded to the 200 block of North Lincoln Way, where a car appeared to be engulfed in smoke, according to a press release from the Galt Police Department.

Once the officers arrived at the home, police and fire personnel found a late-model Chevrolet Tahoe that had been damaged by what appeared to be an explosive devise, the release stated.

According to Lt. Brian Vizzusi of the Galt Police Department, the device is believed to have found its way into the car through the sun roof, which was open at the time of the explosion.

Vizzusi added that Galt detectives are currently working with Sacramento County Explosive Ordinance Detail officers as well as Cosumnes Community Services District firefighters to determine what the device may be.

No one was hurt in the explosion, Vizzusi said, but the Galt Police Department is asking that those with information on who may have set off the device or who may have placed it inside the car to come forward.

It is not just about remembering to lock your doors or close your windows at night anymore, Vizzusi said.

"Now, you have to worry about remembering to close your sun roofs, too," he said.

Anyone with information about this crime is asked to call the Galt Police Department at 209-366-7000.
