Police: Suspect in Galt shooting had financial troubles

Joseph Francis Corey, 65, arrested early today and facing murder charges after a SWAT team managed to get in his garage following a 17-hour standoff, is suspected of shooting and killing an animal control officer a day earlier.

The officer had gone to the home to rescue dogs and cats authorities thought had been left behind, a day after Corey was served an eviction notice and a sheriff's deputy changed the locks.
