Although the Galt Joint Union Elementary School District is expected to receive the same amount of funding for transportation as in years past, the board is still looking at reducing student bus services.
The district is not fully funded by the state for transportation. For 2012-13, staff anticipates just $211,462 in transportation funding from the state, with projected costs for current routes costing $498,053.
The plan is to reduce current transportation costs through route reductions or changes, Superintendent Karen Schauer said in an email to employees late last week.
Route options being considered include providing rural routes only, west side routes only, transporting middle school west to east, or morning-only routes only for bus riders.
A special board meeting will be scheduled in early June to finalize transportation plans for fall, according to Schauer.
