A man who claimed to have been kidnapped in San Jose was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of filing a false police report, according to the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office.
Juan Darwin Martinez, 25, was arrested at about noon Tuesday at the Lockeford Food Mart, 14000 E. Highway 88.
Martinez told deputies that he was kidnapped, bound and gagged after leaving a liquor store in San Jose, according to a Sheriff's report. He added that three men threatened to kill him and took his wallet, $1,500 cash and an uncashed payroll check.
Deputies said that they discovered that Martinez was not in San Jose on Monday night. Instead, he was at Jackson Rancheria playing Texas Hold 'Em poker from about 10 p.m. Monday to 3 a.m. Tuesday, according to the Sheriff's office. A video from Jackson Rancheria shows that Martinez wore the same clothing as when Sheriff's deputies interviewed him in Lockeford, according to the report.
