The Lodi Police Department arrested two individuals with alleged gang affiliations in connection with two separate assaults that took place in recent weeks.
Raymond Richard Ochoa, 28, was arrested Friday afternoon by a patrol officer for his alleged role in a June 15 assault, said Sgt. William Alexander of the Lodi Police Department. Ochoa, believed by police to be a Norteño, is accused of beating a subject with a tire iron near the intersection of Hale Road and Lloyd Street. Eddie Vargas, 22, and Timothy Alan Redfearn, 22, were arrested last week in connection with the assault. Both Redfearn and Vargas were arrested when police issued a search warrant on their residence. Ruby Beth Cortez, 29, another suspected Norteño, was also arrested during the search when officers found an ounce of methamphetamine, Alexander said.
Ochoa was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, violation of parole and participating in a crime to benefit a street gang.
Police also arrested a juvenile in connection with a March 25 stabbing near the intersection of Pine and Washington streets. The juvenile, whose name has not been released, is believed by police to be a Sureño. The juvenile was arrested Friday afternoon after police developed new leads in the case, Alexander said. He was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon and participation in a street gang.
