- Steve Schwabauer at a glance
Steve Schwabauer was appointed Lodi city attorney in 2004, following a five-month interim term and a five-year period as deputy city attorney.
A native of Ventura, he earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Davis in 1990, and attended the University of Santa Clara Law School from 1991 to 1992. He earned his law degree from the University of California, Berkeley in 1994.
He began practicing law privately in Stockton not long after graduating, first with Freeman Brown until 1998, and then Herum Crabtree Brown until 2000.
- Janice Magdich at a glance
Janice Magdich had been deputy city attorney since October 2004, after serving as legal adviser for the Lodi Planning Commission. She handled the majority of the city’s litigation and advised city departments on various legal matters.
Magdich, who grew up in Oceanside, began her legal career with a Modesto law firm in the mid-1980s. Magdich moved on to work in private practice in Stockton, and then in the Sacramento office of a statewide firm specializing in public agency law.
She received her law degree from University of the Pacific’s McGeorge School of Law in 1996 and is a member of the California State Bar.

An emotional Steve Schwabauer thanked the Lodi City Council for its trust in him as he accepted his appointment to the city manager’s position Wednesday night.
The council unanimously approved Schwabauer’s appointment to the position after a three-month interim term.
