Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Jim Elliot Christian High School sent into the world the self-proclaimed "best class ever" Saturday at Temple Baptist Church.

"We're still working on the pride issue," joked David Couchman, principal.

More than their pride, though, Jim Elliot High's Class of 2008 focused on their unity, their belief in God and their commitment to the service of others.

"We wanted to leave a legacy of service," said Joshua Terra, the senior class president.

Terra presented his alma mater with several gifts from his class. First, a set of newly discovered documents connected to the school's namesake, Jim Elliot.

Elliot, a Christian missionary, was killed in Ecuador in 1956 while trying to preach to a group of natives.

The senior class also left scholarships totaling $14,000, gathered through fundraising efforts.

Salutatorian Katie Neeley talked about her love for her classmates in her farewell speech, while Valedictorian Matt Hagan both joked about his class' antics and advised his peers to stay true to their beliefs in the face of opposition.

"We will be surrounded more than ever by non-believers," Hagan said. "It's OK to feel like an outcast."

Future grads John Drebinger, Matt Howen, Lindsay Inscore and Sabrina Medina along with Scott Greene gave a truly inspiring and harmonious performance of Rascal Flatts' "My Wish."

The seniors then stood to receive their diplomas. The crowded oohed and aahed as scenes from the almost-graduates' childhoods flashed on the sanctuary's big screens.

After the last name was called, the crowd stood to give a full 30 seconds of applause before Couchman declared the former classmates graduated.

"Turn your tassel!," he said.
