Former Galt High School assistant principal Robert Rappleye will not return to his position. Instead, he is being assigned to a similar position at Estrellita Continuation High School.
Superintendent Matthew Roberts of the Galt Joint Union High School District said the reassignment is not at all related to a legal incident Rappleye was involved in last summer. Roberts said it’s something the district occasionally does when looking to improve services to students.
The decision for Rappleye to start as Estrellita’s assistant principal in the fall was approved at a special board meeting on Monday.
“We’re very happy to have him back,” Roberts said.
Rappleye will earn $106,268 annually in the new position. He said it is the same salary he was earning previously.
Also on Monday, trustees approved hiring Alejo Padilla as Galt High’s assistant principal.
Padilla, who will earn the same salary as Rappleye, most recently worked as the school’s athletic director. Before that, he taught social studies at Galt High.
Padilla stepped into the assistant principal role last school year while Rappleye was on paid administrative leave.
Rappleye, who met earlier this month with Roberts about coming back to work with the same salary as before, said he is happy with his placement.
“I like the kids at Estrellita High,” he said. “That’s kind of where I started.”
The placement decision was left up to Roberts, who had previously approached Rappleye about a job as a math teacher at Liberty Ranch High School, which would mean a substantial reduction in pay.
Roberts then asked him to write a letter explaining why he should return to his former position at Galt High.
Rapplyeye was arrested on assault charges last year related to a golf course incident, but the charges were later dropped.
Rappleye is a long-time district employee. He served as Galt High’s math department chairman until transferring in 2002 to Estrellita High School. He has worked as an administrator at Galt High since 2003.
