Two major events will held late Monday morning — a memorial service for Galt Police Officer Kevin Tonn and Lodi's Martin Luther King observance.

At 11 a.m., a memorial service for Tonn will be held at Adventure Christian Church, 6401 Stanford Ranch Road, Roseville. The public is invited.

Tonn, 35, was shot to death shortly before noon on Tuesday near the Union Pacific Railroad tracks north of F Street. Humphrey Gascon II is suspected of shooting Tonn.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at East Lawn Memorial Park, 5757 Greenback Lane off Interstate 80, Sacramento.

After the service, a reception will be held at the Citrus Heights Community Center, 6300 Fountain Square Drive, Citrus Heights.

People can watch the service online at http://tinyurl.com/bdyz53x.

Meanwhile, at 11:45 a.m. Monday in Lodi, the Breakthrough Project will conduct its annual Martin Luther King observance from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the fellowship hall at First United Methodist Church, 200 W. Oak St. at South Church Street. The public is welcome.

Called Celebration of Unity, the Martin Luther King observance will feature guest speaker Stagg High School Principal Andre Phillips, who won a gold medal at the 1988 Olympics; music by the Vinewood Elementary School and McNair High School choirs, and awards to fifth- and sixth-grade essay contest winners.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
