New Galt police Officer Nathan Meyerdick and his canine partner, Hunter, recently completed the necessary certifications and started work together Monday. The duo underwent five weeks of training.
They will be officially sworn in during a presentation Wednesday at Galt’s City Council meeting.
The two replace late Galt K9 Officer Kevin Tonn, who was killed in the line of duty in January, and his K9 partner Yaro, who was retired.
The department has been operating without any police dogs, as its second K9 Officer, Brian Nino, took a job in Monterey. His police dog Bo also retired.
