A fisherman was killed Sunday morning after being run over by his own boat between Thornton and Walnut Grove, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

The man, whose name was not disclosed Sunday, was fishing in Snodgrass Slough, about a quarter-mile from Wimpy's Marina, when the accident happened shortly after 10:30 a.m., U.S. Coast Guard Ensign Nicholas Lajoie said.

The man was taken to the marina but died at the scene, Lajoie said. Someone performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation at the scene, according to a fire department dispatcher.

The Coast Guard launched a 25-foot response boat from its Rio Vista station and arranged for an emergency medical service vessel at Wimpy's, Lajoie said. Thornton, Walnut Grove and Cosumnes firefighters were also dispatched.

No other information was available Sunday.
