The beloved 2-year-old Chihuahua who serves as the unofficial store mascot at the small Save-Mart store remained missing on Sunday afternoon.

The Ghuane family, who owns the store at the northeast corner of Kettleman Lane and Hutchins Street, has received several telephone calls since word of the dog’s disappearance was publicized in Friday’s News-Sentinel, said Gurdev Ghuane, who owns the store with her husband, Piara Ghuane.

The dog, named Champ, disappeared from the store on June 30 after running outside the front door, according to Ghuane’s grown son, Max. The family is heartbroken and offered a $1,500 reward.

Several people, reading the News-Sentinel or watching newscasts on the subject on Channels 13 and 40, offered the family a new puppy. Gurdev Ghuane said she doesn’t want a new dog — she wants Champ.

Anyone who may have seen Champ may call the store at 209-369-4321.
