The Lodi Lake beach reopened Tuesday after it was closed for a week and a half because of poor water quality detected earlier this month.

The city had to take daily samples last week to measure the water quality. The city hoped to open the lake back up on Sunday, but the results took longer than expected from the San Joaquin Health Department, Interim Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Jeff Hood said.

"Now that we've met the threshold, we'll be opening up," he said.

The bacteria levels increased because Canadian geese are not flying because their feathers are molting. The city put up snow fencing at the waterline to discourage the birds from accessing the beach.

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
