Fernando Alvarado, 31, of Thornton, was arrested by Lodi Police officers for possession of stolen property, burglary and possession of a forged driver's license, police said.

Alvarado attempted to purchase items with stolen checks at Walmart, when an employee declined to finalize the sale, said Sgt. Fernando Martinez.

"The driver's license didn't look real to the clerk," Martinez said. "The clerk kept the license and the fake check and got a license plate number."

Authorities checked surveillance tape and conducted a parole search at the suspect's residence to locate Alvarado, Martinez said.
