Lodi City Council approves $5.7 million for water meters

The Lodi City Council approved spending almost $5.7 million for the next phase of the city's plan to install 13,174 water meters by the end of 2017.

Councilman Alan Nakanishi was the only dissenting vote, saying after the meeting that when he was in the State Assembly he opposed the bill requiring all cities to have water meters by 2025. He does not agree with the council's decision in 2007 to move forward with the installation of water meters.

When will the State force folks living outside city limits to buy water meters and pay for what they use?
The ground water over draft is a rural problem---not a city problem.
The entire city of Lodi uses about 17,000 acre feet of ground water a year.
The ground water over draft is 200,000 acre feet a year..
Just saying---the city's total water usage is a drop in the bucket compared to total area ground water consumption.
