A local FFA chapter has been deemed to be one of the most innovative, unique and outstanding in the country, the National FFA Organization announced recently.

That chapter, the Lodi High No. 1 FFA Chapter, was honored as a three-star Chapter winner and a Model of Innovation finalist in the National FFA Chapter Award program. The chapter members have been invited to attend the 84th National FFA Convention in Indianapolis in October, where they will be recognized for this honor and compete to be named as one of the three top Models of Innovation chapters.

The Models of Innovation award program for FFA chapters, sponsored nationally by John Deere, showcases the innovative ideas and activities that a chapter participates in throughout the year.

As a national finalist, the chapter members and their Program of Activities will be featured in a National FFA publication highlighting the top FFA chapters and what they provide to their members. Each activity provides opportunities for members to excel in one of three areas: student, chapter or community development.

The National FFA Organization, formerly known as the Future Farmers of America, is a national youth organization of 523,309 student members — all preparing for leadership and careers in the science, business and technology of agriculture — as part of 7,487 local FFA chapters in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.

Kudos to Mr. Newport and Mrs. Goehring!!! They work hard at making this program awesome and I know that there is a lot of parent support too. They now have an awesome new teacher to add to the amazing things that they already do. Mr Garrett is a great addition to this program. Keep up the great work LODI FFA Chapter #1

Should graduations return to the Grape Bowl?

Lodi Unified leaders are moving Lodi and Tokay high school graduations from the Grape Bowl to the Spanos Center at UOP in Stockton. They cite limited seating, costs and unpredictable weather at the Grape Bowl. But others say graduations at the Grape Bowl are an important Lodi tradition, and one reason many supported renovating the stadium. What do you think?
