It’s only been about a month since local Chief Petty Officer Mike Roman retired from the Navy and he is already adjusting to life as a civilian.

At the age of 17, Roman chose to join the Navy in order support his family. Though he was underage his father gave his support and signed him up in October of 1995. It was April 15, 1996, when Roman left home to start a military career that spanned more than two decades. Roman is a decorated sailor receiving several accolades and holding several medals including a joint service commendation medal, joint service achievement medal and several other commendation and achievement medals for his efforts and participation in several operations while deployed in Iraq, Germany and South Korea.
