Community members wanting to help the Hutchins Street Square pool can now donate to a new fund that will pay for pool repairs and unexpected maintenance.
Lodi has recently had to cut hours and hike fees to decrease the gap between the amount of money the pool brings in and how much it costs to run.
One of the challenges for the city is maintaining an aging pool, Interim Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Director Jeff Hood said.
The city has to spend $1,800 to repair the exterior double doors and $11,000 to repair a pipe for the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system that was damaged by copper thieves. The biggest item will be $50,000 to repair the 24-year-old pool lining, which is failing, Hood said.
The new fund will allow the foundation to donate to the repairs of the pool.
"Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity in helping maintain the Hutchins Street Square as the 'crown jewel' of Lodi," foundation chairman John Ledbetter said.
If you would like to donate, send a check or cash noting that it is for the pool to: The Hutchins Street Square Foundation, P.O. Box 2278, Lodi, CA 95241. Any donations are tax deductible.
