Samuel Primack, a 14-year-old eighth-grade student in Lodi, is the only youth from California to win this year's local Concerto Competition.
Normally two winners are chosen, but only Primack was up to par to win this competition.
"It took a lot of work practicing," said Primack. "It was a lot of fun and it was exciting."
He has many instrumental talents, being able to play the piccolo, piano and string bass, but he is most proficient with the flute.
Currently he is the first chair in the Central Valley Youth Symphony, but soon he will be traveling to Russia and to Carnegie Hall in New York City to play as a soloist for various symphonies.
Primack will play on Sunday in the Central Valley Youth Symphony's final performance of the season. The concert will be held at 3 p.m. at Faye Spanos Concert Hall at the University of the Pacific.
